Easy Beans from Scratch

Cooking beans from scratch may sound time consuming. But, this easy method does not have much hands on time and is SO MUCH better than canned!

Make a double batch and freeze it for another meal or two or 5. Making beans from scratch saves you money as well

Easy Beans from Scratch

The perfect beans from scratch.

Equipment

  • Dutch Oven
  • Stainless Steel Pot

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beans
  • Water
  • 1 ½ tsp redmond real salt

Instructions

  • Rinse beans in a colander, place in a large pot and pour water over to cover 2” above beans. Bring pot to boil. Remove from heat and let rest covered for 1 hour.
  • Add 1 ½ tsp salt, desired herbs and additional water to cover 2” above beans. Cover and bring to a boil. Remove lid and simmer beans until they are creamy for about 1 ½- 2 hours.
  • Check after an hour and add more water to keep beans covered.
  • If not done, after 1 ½ hours, check every 15 minutes for doneness.

Notes

black beans, kidney beans, cannellini beans, great northern, navy beans and any hard beans work well with this method.

The Easiest White Bean Soup

The most delicious and healthy homemade white beans.

Equipment

  • Dutch Oven
  • Stainless Steel Pot

Ingredients

  • 1 1 b beans
  • Water
  • 1 ½ tsp redmond real salt plus more to taste
  • 4 oz grass fed pan sausage
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 2 celery stalks diced
  • 1 onion diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup organic white wine
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bunch Kale
  • 2 tbs sherry vinegar

Instructions

  • Soak the beans according to the recipe above.
  • Cook your sausage till browned then add in all your veggies and cook till translucent and add a pinch of salt. Add in your garlic and saute for 1 min the deglaze the pan by pouring in your wine and stir till wine is mostly absorbed.
  • Add in your bay leaves, taste the broth to see if it needs additional salt.
  • Cook beans for 1 hour then add in the kale. Continue to cook until creamy.
  • Once beans are finished add in 2 tbs of sherry vinegar and don’t forget to taste before serving to add any additional seasonings.
